The Kantele-GO! project is aimed at diversifying kantele music and increasing its presentation to the public through new forms of cross-border activities. This includes five components:
1. kantele’s repertoire is more diversified and modernized
2. new niches for kantele music are identified and tested
3. presence of kantele in social networks is increased
4. touring activity of kantele players is intensified
5. kantele musicians have acquired new playing techniques

Project «Kantele Goes Global! Ground Zero» (Kantele-GO! КА3100)
Specific objective of the project: Diversity of kantele music and its presentation to the public is increased through new forms of cross-border activities. This includes five components:
1. kantele’s repertoire is more diversified and modernized
2. new niches for kantele music are identified and tested
3. presence of kantele in social networks is increased
4. touring activity of kantele players is intensified
5. kantele musicians have acquired new playing techniques
Target groups and beneficiaries of the project:
- professional musicians who perform traditional music of Finland and Karelia including those who play kantele and other folk musical instruments
- kantele teachers in Finland and Karelia
- young people in Finland and Karelia who learn to play kantele
- inhabitants of the programme area
Expected change the project will make to the current situation:
- Kantele music will become more diverse and interesting for listeners (local residents and tourists alike) on both sides of the border.
- New cultural niches for kantele music will be identified and tested, which should lead to wider presence of kantele in cultural life.
- Кantele will be much better presented and promoted in social networks, and especially in videosharing platforms.
- Touring activity of kantele players will be intensified, and their musical skills will be enriched with new kantele playing techniques.
- A strategy for kantele's international promotion in the next decade will be defined.
- The project will enable Russian kantele players to acquire much-needed advanced musical instruments.
Main outputs the project will produce:
- New Finnish-Russian Kantele Music Programme;
- Three tours presenting this Programme to audiences on both sides of the border
- 40-50 video clips promoting kantele music in major social networks
- Four master courses spreading knowledge on new techniques of playing kantele
- Two Youth Kantele Forums teaching children new techniques of playing kantele
- Research report on international experiences in ethnic music promotion to be applied for kantele promotion
- Research report on new cultural niches for kantele music
- International Kantele Promotion Action Plan for 2021-2030
