The new section of the permanent exhibition "Kalevala Universe" in the Museum of fine arts of Karelia is getting more and more popular with the museum guests! In March Consul Johannes Puukki from Petrozavodsk Office of the Consulate General of Finland in Saint-Petersburg visited the new exhibition either.

He noted that he had been growing up on the Kalevala images and illustrations created by the famous Finnish artist Akseli Gallen-Kallela. The new exposition in the Museum of Fine Arts of Karelia showed the epic poem from completely new sides to Mr.Puukki since the collection represents a lot of works of art created by many artists in different techniques and in different years.

The Consul paid special attention to the unique atmosphere of the exhibition, created through three-dimensional installations, sounds, smells and lighting solutions. With great pleasure Johannes Puukki played the traditional musical instrument - kantele, created by Anatoly Meshko and represented at the exhibition as an interactive component. Mr.Puukki noted that he would definitely recommend his partners and colleagues to visit a new cultural and tourist attraction in Petrozavodsk.

The Kalevala theme, where history, culture and traditions of Karelia and Finland interwine, really unites these two countries. We would like to thank the Consul for his visit, regular interest and participation in the project "Museums in Focus: Development of Cultural Services for Chinese Tourists" (KA9021).

We look forward to further cooperation!

A new section of the permanent exhibition was created as a part of the KA9021 project “Museums in Focus: the development of Cultural Services for Chinese Tourists” (within Karelia CBC Programme 2014-2020, funded by the European Union, Finland and Russia).
