The future restorers are on Kizhi Island
The students of the Petrozavodsk State University have practical training on Kizhi island. The students have started the master’s program “Restoration and adaptation for modern use of wooden architecture”.
Introduction to the profession takes place on Kizhi Island. The students already had the brilliant lectures by Andrey Kovalchuk about the carpenters tools and traditional technologies of wooden architecture. They assembled the log-house model with the nailless roof, what is one of the favorite tasks for the students. The students visited all levels of the Church of the Transfiguration together with Alexander Lyubimtsev. They also attended the wonderful lecture about restoration of the iconostasis of the Church of the Transfiguration by Igor Gashkov. Even the experienced workers of the Kizhi Museum listened to him breathlessly.
We are sure that such program will give good impetus to the future study and the students will be sure that they made the right choice. We would like to wish them success and we believe that they are our future.
The students will have practice for a few days on Kizhi Island and they are open to something new and interesting.
