The Bofori project produces cross-border training packages for Russian forestry professionals. Training on one of the essential themes, tending of young stand, was successfully piloted in Suojärvi during 7-8 September.

In the training Karelian forestry entrepreneurs received theoretical information about management of young forests, interaction between tree species and normative regulation of silviculture. Felling methods, measurement of stand density and tree selection principles were introduced in practise during the field excursion.

The event was organized by the Karelian Forest Research Institute, Petrozavodsk State University and AO “Zapkarelles”. The forestry service company "Lesnaya territoriya" provided silvicultural expertise on young stand treatment. Due to travel restrictions, field excursion in Finland was postponed to next year.
