Underwater pipe

On October 30 Karelvodokanal LLC staff went to Savonlinna on a study trip organized by project partner SYKE and hosted by Savonlinnan Vesi.

7 Karelvodokanal project employees went to the construction site during works on preparation for laying pressure pipes underwater through a waterbody.

Savonlinnan Vesi manager Esa Hinkkanen and managing engineer Leena Vihavainen gave the guests information on the following crucial aspects of building an underwater pipe connection:

  • Electric welding of pipes,
  • Installation of sinkers on the pipes,
  • Installation of alarm floats,
  • A technique for immersion of pipes in the lake.

The guests also saw finished construction installations (wells with shut-off valves) for planned connection of a new pressure pipe network.

Karelvodokanal LLC will apply Finnish expertise during construction of a new water intake facility and gravity water supply system on Sortavala in the framework of Karelia CBC project KA6000 implementation.
