Green Week: from knowledge to action
Green school project organized information campaign - Green Week.
Schools in Karelia Republic and Finland choose a suitable week in April and May 2021 and hold various activities for the students, parents and local people. The goal is to promote green lifestyle and inform about modern environmental standards.
More than 30 schools joined the Green Week. They share info about their activities in social networks.
In the School of Eastern Finland, Joensuu City, the project team of students planned environmental activities for every day from May 10 to May 14. The students learned more about Fair Trade, planted the trees, cleaned the forest from garbage and participated in outdoor activities.
Students from school in Lahdenpohja City created environmental posters. They were located both in public places and in the Network.
Students from Medvezhjegorsk City developed posters about eco-friendly lifestyle. They made photos illustrating the economy of water and electricity. The posters were published in the social network group of the local library.
Many posters were focused on the forest fire prevention. As an example you can see the posters developed and located in the school 33 in Petrozavodsk City.
The studens from Pai willage spoke with local people about forest fire protection. They disseminated flyers describing the rules of fire control.
Many schools promoted the use of ecobags to reduce the use of plastic. The students produced hadmade bags. Their families will use them for shopping instead of plastic bags. On the picture you can see the students from Sumposad willage.
Practical actions on cleaning of the natural territories are traditionally held in spring time. The students from Lakholampi removed garbage from the forest near the school.
The project staff created 10 environmental posters basing on the photos of Igor Podgorny. He made pictures of the birds and animals in Karelia, previously in Petrozavodsk City and around it. The animals from the posters explain the rools environmental behaviour. Soon the Finnish and English versions will be produced.
The students participating in the Green Week located the posters in schools, libraries and other places to attract attention of people.
The results of Green Week information campaign will be summarized at the beginning of June.
