"Demidov's Acting School" Laboratory in the framework of project "Theatre Crossroads" will be held at the National Theatre of Karelia on March 12–16, 2019 in Petrozavodsk.
The leadership of Laboratory is Andrei Malaev-Babel - the Head of Acting at the Florida State University /Asolo Conservatory for Actor Training.
The Laboratory will be based on the program created by Professor Andrei Malaev-Babel at the Asolo Conservatory for Actor Training, which is one of the ten leading theatre schools in America.
The Laboratory will give participants the opportunity to touch the technique of etude exercises created by the master of the Russian theatre Nikolai Demidov. Etude exercises allow the actor to establish itself in the process of creative life on stage.
The great master of the Russian theatre Nikolai Demidov (1884-1953) created an acting school, which is rooted in the culture of creative freedom. The first head of the Moscow Art Theater School, artistic director of the National Theatre of Karelia during the Great Patriotic War, Demidov was able to unravel the professional secrets of the great tragedians - Eleonora Duse, Tommaso Salvini, Maria Yermolova and others. The Demidov School helps an actor to meet his own creative personality and teaches him to follow artistic instincts. Demidov technique does not impose biased decisions and colors to the actor. Instead, it clears the channels of acting perception, and contributes to the smooth flow of the subconscious creative actor’s process.
The laboratory is intended for professional actors interested in the internal acting technique development, raising the quality of creative freedom and revealing their own creative individuality.
