Culture Open -event at Carelicum
Culture Open –project organized an event at Carelicum Auditorium on November 26, 2020. The purpose of the event was to demonstrate the project’s co-creative activities with immigrants and people with disabilities, as well as to showcase project results from the past two years.
The highlight of the event was the performance video of the project’s Youth Able Art Group; the group was compiled of developmentally challenged youngsters in the autumn of 2019 and they trained for a performance with three professional artists. However, due to the surge of the Covid-19 –virus, the group was divided into two smaller groups for safety, and instead of a public performance their rehearsals were documented on video by one of the artists coaching the group. The three artist coaches were present at the event talking about their work with the group and sharing their experiences of the project.
During the event, participants could also visit the JoMoni Photography Club exhibition on display at Carelicum lobby. The exhibition is a cooperation between Culture Open and the club, which consists of immigrant photographers. The exhibition, titled North Karelian Moments, presents scenes of local nature and culture as seen through the eyes of immigrants.
Visitors to the event could also pick up the project’s home accessibility –test, digital accessibility guidance as well as chat with the Project Coordinator in regard the accessibility of local cultural services and the project’s contribution to inclusive culture.
Because of the current Covid-19 –rules for public meetings, the number of visitors to the event was restricted.
