Theatre Innovation Hub opened in the Republic of Karelia
Theatre innovation hub was opened on April 23, 2020 during the online conference in the framework of the Theatre Crossroads project.
The Hub is the result of the Theater Crossroads project work that started in October 2018. Theoretical materials of the Russian and Finnish experts, presented and used during the educational programs of the project, are accumulated at the Hub for further distribution and promotion. Among them are presentations, teaching aids, photo- and video materials of the project activities: a seminar-laboratory on the baby theater, the Demidov School of Acting, a seminar for theater technicians, a seminar on summer theater, Art of Motion laboratory according to the Jacques Lecoq’s method.
The Head of the Hub and the Deputy Chairman of the Karelian Union of Theatre Artists Elena Sotnikova spoke about the preparation of the methodological base and activities of the Hub in the future, outlining the main tasks:
- development of the databank on theoretical and practical issues regarding theater, theatre history and related disciplines,
- promotion and acquaintance with modern theater programs and teaching materials in the field of theatrical art,
- holding seminars, conferences and meetings on theoretical and practical issues of theatrical art,
- providing informational, creative and advisory assistance both for professionals and audience.
The YouTube channel created under the project as well as a series of training videos were presented during the online opening. Videos on theater art programs, secrets of professional skills and inclusive programs in the theater are designed both for professionals and the general public and are available for free.
Lilia Shafeeva, the director of the Acting Art Studio «The Demidov School» (Moscow), spoke about the author’s course by Andrey Malaev-Babel who is the first and only stage director and the teacher with experience in mastering the heritage of Nikolai Demidov in all its integrity. Lilia also shared the plans to organize the online course «The Demidov School».
The Head of the Petrozavodsk branch office of the Karelia CBC Programme Dmitry Bazegsky congratulated the participants on the opening of the Hub. He said that the establishment of such center is important for theater professionals as well as for society as a whole and for the development of theatrical activities in Karelia taking into account European experience.
Maria Lepistö, Finnish project coordinator from Finland-Russia Society, noted that good neighborly relations between Russia and Finland are long-term and permanent, and the joint project work, including the creation of the Theatre Innovation Hub, contributes to strengthening and developing cooperation between countries.
Russian project coordinator Anna Tomchik highlighted that despite external challenges and the difficult situation in the world, the work of Theatre Crossroads project continues and the partners remain positive.
